St Georges Day, wine and the broom cupboard

23 April 2012

In case you are wondering why I have posted a photo of a dandelion flower at the head of today's musings, I'll tell you.  Today is St George's day!  It is also the traditional day for picking open dandelion heads to make wine.  And very nice it is too.  I haven't made any for a long time but I used to enjoy making it and enjoy drinking it even more ;-)))

The fight to save Weddington Fields from the sticky grubby hands of developers goes on.  An application has been made to have the area registered as a village green has been accepted by the county council and a six week public consultation is now taking place.  However, that will not see the end of it.  If the council does list the area as a village green then it's likely that it will go to appeal and a public inquiry.  I'm not sure how I feel about it all really.  The area concerned is east of the main town centre and although it is an attractive area, it's hardly a village green.  Not only that but the town needs a lot of new houses to be built.  If not in Weddington, where will they built.  The major concern as it see is that the River Anchor runs close to the area and there may be a risk of flooding if it is built on.  What is perhaps a clear and certain way to stopping the development is for some rare and exotic species of bird to nest there or of a wild flower of national importance to be found there ;-)))

While on the subject of housing ... not too far from me here in Dorktown is a pub called the Boot.  I remember being taken to Christmas Parties there when my dad was in the Burma Star Association.  It used to be a good pub but for some time now it has been going downhill and finally closed for good about 12 months ago.  There has now been an application to turn it into flats and to build four new houses with it.  I would support that without problem.

The BEEB has done it again ... according to the forecast yesterday the area is supposed to be dark, cloudy and raining; it's current bright sunshine and blue skies.  Typical!  Canna trust them with owt!

Today's photo then is of a bike rack I found in Tamworth town centre a couple of years ago.

Two Brooms ... were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know
each other so well, they decided to get married.

One broom was, of course, the bride broom.  The other the groom broom.
The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress.  The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo.  The wedding was lovely.

After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over
and said to the groom-broom and said "I think I am going to have a little
whisk broom!!!"

"Impossible!" said the groom broom. "We haven't even swept together."
