Nearly Crimble, arson and a rainy day in London town

30 June

Here we go, we’re on the downward slope towards and Crimble and 2015 from midnight tonight. See, I told time flies when you’re having fun – or not as the case may be … … …

Yesterday I went off for the day and decided on London. Everything went off OK until I pulled off the M6 at J3 and headed along the A444 towards Dorktown. Oh dear … the local random ‘pin in the map’ for yesterday was on the A444 exit for Bed’th, with traffic being diverted through there. It took me 45 minutes to travel the distance that it normally takes just two or three minutes. I arrived home a lot later than I had hoped for and only just got the toilet in time for a pee, and I do mean only just.

Anyway, London was OK, if a bit overcast and grey. I gave up when the third shower hit while I was in the National Gallery shop looking for a presi for Jan; well I was in there but the shower hit just as I was leaving there. Fortunately there’s a large cover entry-way there and I sat there waiting for it ease off. I’d already got slightly damp in one shower and didn’t want to get damper, that’s why I called it a day at that point.

There was something on in Hyde Park which I didn’t know about; well, there was a large marque there close to Park Lane, although nothing seemed to be happening. According to their website there was nothing on there yesterday, but there was on Saturday. AT a tenner for person entry fee, I wouldn’t have attended it even if I had been there on Saturday.

Front page of today’s News is the story of a house in Galley Common that has been hit by arsonist for the second time, the first being on May 7. Someone doesn’t like that family it seems. Makes me wonder who they have upset. Whatever, the arsonist needs to be caught before anyone is hurt in one of the fires they set! I have no understanding at all about why they do this. Maybe the house owners are doing it as an insurance fraud, it has been known before. The house is now a rite off by the sound of it and that would make sense I suppose; make sense yes, understand it, NO!

Photo-wise I only got 43 shots yesterday. None of them are all that much good really, but at least the pub related ones can still be used. The first shot was this …

A large blue cockerel on the fourth plinth at Trafalgar Square. As you can see, a very dark sky!

Today’s funny …

“I hate to have to tell you this”, said the Doctor in a sad compassionate voice, “but you have been unfortunately been diagnosed with a highly contagious disease, we will have to quarantine you and you’ll only be fed cheese and bologna.”
“That’s terrible!” Said the distraught young man, quickly sitting down before he could faint. “I don’t know if I could handle being in quarantine…and the cheese and bologna diet… What’s with the cheese and bologna diet anyway? I’ve never heard of such a diet before?!” “It’s not exactly a diet”, responded the Doctor matter of factly, “it’s just the only food that will fit under the door!”

Time flies, out of debt at last and Armed Forces Day

28 June

Another week has just flown by. I remember someone saying that the older you get, the faster time seems to pass by. I can really see that now. It’s two years now since we moved here into our one bedroomed flat. And yet it seems not too long ago really, just a few months to me. The other saying is ‘Time flies when you’re having fun.’ That one is true too.

Today it’s Armed Forces Day. There is an event going on in town but the weather forecast is for our area is pretty dire, so I shall be staying at home. I’d love to go down and have a look, however, getting wet while sitting in a scooter will not do me any good at all. So today I shall be doing all my supporting on-line and in spirt only.

eBay has been sending me loads of reminders to reset my password. I haven’t bothered with doing it simply because my account has been blocked. The reason for that is that I owe them £19.99. This happened because I received a new debit card from my bank. I have tried on a number of occasions to pay this fee but the system has constantly refused to let me add the new card to the account. Well, last night it did finally allow me to do so and I added an even newer card to the account and pay the dosh I owed. Now all I need to do is to wait for their systems to get round to opening my account again.

All this came about because of something I mentioned yesterday, that song by Nightwish; I wanted to see if they had a CD out. They do, loads of them! What I didn’t know was that they are a hard rock band from Scandinavia I think. I’m not usually in to that sort of music but I will be getting one of their CDs when I can.

Our weekly history lesson has had a holiday for a couple weeks, mainly cos I forgot to do it. Ah well … here we go again. It was today in 1838 that Queen Vic was crowned in Westminster Abbey, an event that began the so-called ‘Victorian Period’. While many people did well during it with increased wealth and influence; at the same time poverty, with its soul-mates homelessness, illness, drunkenness also increased. A small number of the wealthy people tried to help the poverty-stricken, but it was a very small number.

Today’s photo is a mono shot of a plant I saw when were out one day …

And today’s funny …
