Jan I are in
The Metropole Hotel on Blackpool sea front.
Reading some of the reports on Trip Advisor and the place is a right
dive. What we have found out is that
it’s not a dive; but it’s also not a very good hotel! But the thing is, there’s something like 390
rooms here and at an average of two per room you’re talking on 780 in here. To
be able to provide 5* service to that many people it would cost a heck of lot
more than we’re paying. We’re here for
just four nights and we will live with the things we’ve found are not top notch
but we will be thinking very hard about coming here again.
But not
everything we’ve seen here is not down to the hotel. It’s like at breakfast yesterday; I went up
to the counter to get mine – it’s buffet style service and the guy in front of
me started off with three fried eggs, honestly, three fired eggs! Then a spoonful of scrambled eggs to which he
added a pile of bacon, four sausage, beans and tomatoes and finally a large
handful of toast. No idea if he finished
it but I was starting to feel pretty sick looking at it; and the looks he got
from others as he moved away … … …
I am 65
today – officially retired, released and relieved; that is why we have come
here for this week. The weather today
was really bad and right now we have heavy rain and gale force winds. The last twice we have come up here for this
week we have had good weather. At least
we had good weather yesterday for our trip to Leighton Moss RSPB site. Not done ouwt to the photos yet but will do
soon enough. We’re hoping for good
weather again tomorrow for a trip to Fleetwood bird obs place and then on to
Marten Mere for more birding.
