Nice sight, two in one and when is a charity not a charity?

18 September 2013

Now that was a rather nice surprise!  There I was sat sitting at the end of BBC Midlands News when I noticed a largish bird fly past the window.  A quick look at the side fence and I found a juvenile peregrine falcon.  It left us as quickly as it arrived so sadly no photo; but a nice spot anyway.

Three TV shows I've always loved are Morse, Frost and Deizial (sorry about the poor spelling here).  Anyway, on my wish list for the future was a story line that brought all three of the teams together.  Now of course it can't happen can it.  But perhaps there might be a glimmer of hope.  The latest issue of Writing Magazine carries a piece of teams of two writers coming together to write a story with their key detectives in it.  The idea of Rebus meeting up with Roy Grace certainly sounds like a good idea to me.  I shall look forward to getting a copy when it's published.

Some time ago I mentioned the spat the council is having with the local Riding for the Disabled here in Dorktown.  For some time the council has been reluctant to say what it's all about - until today that is!  The whole issue revolves around whether the centre is a charity or a commercial business.  As a charity the centre leases the council owner land for just £25 per year which makes the council a major supporter of the centre.  Yet the RDA (Riding for Disabled Association), has withdrawn its membership of the local centre last year because of concerns over what is happening there.  Now here's the problem ...

The original lease was for 21 years and is now up for renewal.  However, the council can only deal with the original trustees.  The fact that the Ingleby Foundation is now involved and that names have been added to the Charity Commission website doesn't matter in the least.  The first trustees are still in place and they are the one that need to be dealt with.  And those two men agree that questions should be asked about whether the centre is still a charity or a commercial concern.  Until that is sorted, nothing can or will be done on this issue.  T'ther side of the argument helps doesn't it?

So now for a photo ... a shot looking inland from Barmouth harbour.

And a funny ...

A man got on the bus with both of his front trouser pockets full of golf balls and sat down next to a beautiful (you guessed it) blonde.
The puzzled blonde kept looking at him and his bulging pockets. Finally, after many glances from her, he said, "It's golf balls."

The blonde continued to look at him for a very long time, thinking deeply about what he had said.

After several minutes, not being able to contain her curiosity any longer, she asked, "Does it hurt as much as tennis elbow?"
