Hospital, thistle and chess

1 June 2012

And so another months has flown by.  At this rate is will soon be Christmas again ;-)))

The Hussy Hospital is on the front page of the News again.  This time it's the hospital executive board who are saying that they were making plans to put out a tender to private companies to run the hospital.  They claim it isn't privatization, but unless there is money to be made no private company will be interested in taking it on.  That to me is privatization no matter how nicely they try to tie it up with a pretty blue ribbon with a big bow!  These morons must thing that Dorktowners came in on the last shuttle flight from Mars to be taken in by this!  Cameron will be rubbing his hands with glee when he hears about this one.

So we are now at the BIG WEEKEND!  Ah well ... Royal Liz will be rained on during Sunday's ride down the Thames on a barge if we're lucky.  But I suppose she will be claiming duty to continue no matter what the weather but what about the poor sods who will rowing the damned boat?  No doubt the poor brain washed sods will still think it a great honour and privilege to be out in the rain working their socks off while she sits in splendour, in the dry waving to all the fawning masses on the river banks.  It's sickening!  I have some DVDs of I love Lucy to watch again while it is on the telly.  Or maybe there might be a juicy murder to be solved on the CI channel.

Jan has been moved to another ward where this morning they got her out of bed, then back in for when the doctors came round and then back out again so she could try a small walk around.  Now she is really hurting.  But the thing is, she has do it doesn't she before they will allow her to come home.  Jan is no softy I can assure you!  Some of the things she has been put through because of her health is remarkable.  She will not let this stop her either.  The main item she is worrying about is the stairs here at home.  She'll make it though, I have every confidence in that!

You may be thinking why I have posted this ...

It's not just a thistle though, oh no.  This one was growing on the side of the road of the road by the Hussy Hospital.  I managed to park in the hospital car park and go off to get a few shots of it.  This thing was taller than me, I know that at only 5' 5" that may seem easy - but a thistle over five and half feet tall?  This actual flower head was around 3" across the top and around 6" from top to bottom; I didn't have anything with me to give some sort of scale for it.  Anyway, it flowered and the seeds flew of who knows where but the plant itself hasn't been seen again in that location.  Sad really, it looked very good there.

Yes, very good ... that will teach him! ;-)))

The local bookstore had this huge display with a sign advertising, "Newly Translated From the Original French: 37 Mating Positions." The book was already wrapped in plain brown wrapper and I just had to buy one.

Once safely at home and alone, I opened it and found that I had just purchased an expensive book about chess.
