A day of firsts

12 April

Apologies from for not posting yesterday; we had a day out to Cambridge and didn’t get back until 9.30. I now have 72 new photos to sort out so I can bore you all with them. It was a bit of a day firsts too, most good one, one definitely not! We use one of the many Park and Ride places when we go to Cambridge, so easy and cheap, with a with a bus straight into the city centre. Our scooters are too big to go on the bus with so we used our walkers instead; and so off we went on our jolly travels.

Our first task, to find a pub for a drink. There are plenty of eateries about but it did take a good bit to find The Eagle, our first, first of the day, seeing as it’s a pub I didn’t know there. It’s a huge pub too, with two bars and five seating rooms, six if you count the outside eating area. One of the rooms is called The RAF Bar, and you might have expected the RAF is the only decorating feature with photos of airplanes and squadron badges and so on. The most important feature is the ceiling; It is a deep brown colour but has aircrew names smoked into it covering most of it, with little room for anymore to be added.

From there we headed back out to the market where I bought two different bunches of salad leaves and some baby plum tomatoes. Second first happened while I was choosing the leaves; from my waist down I lost all feeling and sensation and had to cling to the stall to keep me up. Not only that, I couldn’t actually move. Thankfully the stall holder saw what was happening and came around with my walker and helped me sit down. When I turned round, Jan was standing there open mounted and very pale looking. Not a nice felling at all.

Once I had rested a wee bit, we went off on our way. Jan was thirsty again so we looked for another place for a drink … and found a MacDonald’s of all places. Last time we in Cambridge there wasn’t one, one of the few towns that didn’t have one. And in there was another first, the first MacDs we’ve been in that has seating set aside for disabled people. After a bit more walking around we headed back for the bus to get home.

And here’s our last first of the day; there’s a pub on the A5 called The Hinckley Knight and Jan has fancied going in there for drink for ages now. So last night we did stop. By that time Jan was in pain in her right arm and shoulder and needed to stop and rest, even if we were close to home. It’s not a bad pub and we talked about going back there sometime for a couple of hours out and a meal.

For those of you who don’t know yet, Microsoft is ending the Internet Explorer browser before too long. The new one is called Edge and it comes free with W10. I’ve decided to give it a go and you know what, it’s not bad at all. You still get all the same bits n bobs with it and that is now my browser of choice.  Mind you, I still have Firefox installed as well, just in case.

So today’s photo …

A small street in Cambridge.

Today’s funny …

A man and a giraffe walked into a bar. The man asked for a drink and one for the giraffe. They drank it and had another one, then another and another. The man got up and went to walk out, the giraffe tried to follow and fell over. The bar man said don't leave that lying round here and the man said, it's not a lion, its a giraffe.
