Justice?

10 December

At long last I managed to get out down town on me scooter. Not only that I managed to get most of the shopping I wanted too. I even managed to get back home in time to do me blog; what I didn’t have at that time was the energy, the ‘umph’ I needed to get on to do it. And that my friends is what happened.

Of course I took my camera with me, as I always do. That is a lesson I learned a long time ago, always carry a camera. Many times I’ve gone out and not had one with me and been presented with a really good photo-op, and once it’s missed, it’s gone for ever. As it happened I arrived home without having taken one shot, again! The last time I did actually go out for shoot was in mid-September, and that is a long time for me. I really do think it’s time I had a trip to Brum for a look and mooch about. We were planning it for tomorrow but life in the shape of Kile has caused even more changes. Oh dear, grandkids, who’d have em eh …

Last week I mentioned the corruption surrounding FIFA, so last night I sat and watched Panorama that I recorded on Monday. It was about a reporter who has been investigating FIFA for the last 15 years. Of course, I don’t have any interest in watching the silly game anyway, but bribery, corruption and fraud at the levels some of those officials have been involved in and the threats made to that reporter on camera, then I am interested in it. After 17 years Blatter is now likely to face the courts over his role in all of it. But it looks like it won’t just be in Switzerland will it? The FBI is investigating and although they haven’t said anything yet, I wouldn’t be surprised if our own police are looking into it too.

Have you ever just sat and watched the justice system at work? If you have been on Jury service you will have done so. It was in the mid-1980s when I got called up for it. What it did for me was to get me interested in how it works. Of course, it was far too late for me actually get involved in any way, but I began attending courts locally and once at The Old Baily. What finally put me off the whole things was the flim-flamary of the lawyers and solicitors in the courts. I didn’t sit in on any really interesting and complex cases, moors the pity, but what finally pushed me away was a comment by a judge to one lawyer, he said ‘Yes, Mr ****, you are correct, but you must argue the point.’ That was enough for.

Some of the cases that have gone on just lately are also make me suspicious as to just how some of the legal eagles think. Take the one I mentioned on Tuesday about a man showing kiddie porn to his work mates. There’s also the differences in sentencing that goes all over the UK. How can it be a drunk driver will get a small fine and 1 months ban in one town and ten miles down the road get a much larger fine and a longer ban for being exactly the same amount of the limit. This inconstancies’ seems to spread all over criminal law when it comes to sentencing, no matter the offence might be. Ah well, who am I, I’m only job public.

Right now it’s cold, dark and damp out there today, so I thought for today’s photo I’d bring back a little summer sunshine …

Brixham, Devon.

Today’s funny …

China, Russia, and Poland venture to space. China says they'll go to Pluto because it's the farthest. Russia says they'll go to Jupiter because it's the biggest. Poland says they'll go to the Sun. Russia and China warn that they'll melt. They reply, "We'll go at night."
