Staying in, films and wild life

19 January

Sunday morning and it's a bright sunny day. Yet Jan and I are sitting here with Kile instead of going out because Jan has somehow managed to wrench her neck and my head cold still isn't right and I was feeling rough last night. Jan was going to go to church for the first time this year and I was off to Brum for a photo session around the Digbeth area. Maybe next Sunday if we feel OK.

This morning we sat and watched Hidden Kingdoms which we recorded the other day. No matter what you feel about the BBC in general, I hope you will agree that they know how to do natural history programmes. This new one is no exception, majoring on just two different species of mice, one in Africa and one the States and filling a full 50 minutes of action shots. Really looking forward to the next two episodes.

An interesting story on the news the other. A Japanese soldier from WW2 who finally surrendered in 1972 has died at the age of the 92. No matter we may think of Japan's role in the war, we should respect that man's devotion to what he saw as his duty, I do anyway. On his return to Japan he was treated as a returning hero but he wasn't impressed it seems because he didn't like the changes he found in Japan.

Last night we watched Tron for the first time and thought that was a good film, well, we enjoyed it anyway. After that we let Kile choose one and he went for Polar Express. I actually like it, a harmless bit of hocus-pocus. However, having seen it as Kile's choice in mid-November, it can be seen too often too quickly. Once he's back home later today we will be watching all the other shows we've recorded to try to catch up.

In that last paragraph I have just added the word Tron to Word dic-n-ary. It reminded me of once before when I was thinking of how many words we can add to the Word dic-n-ary. I have no idea how many I have added to my copy on my 'puter and I would think that others will have added even more. It does show just how powerful a program it is.

Today's photo then ...

A sunset off the A45 on our way home from Draycote.

And for today's funny I offer ...

THE DIFFERENCE IF YOU MARRY A YORKSHIRE GIRL!......
Three friends married women from different parts of the world.
The first man married a Greek girl
He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning.
It took a couple of days, but on the third day he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away.
The second man married a Thai girl.
He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results but the next day he saw it was better.
By the third day he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table.
The third man married a girl from Yorkshire. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table every day. The first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything either,
...... but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down, he could see a little out of his left eye and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he urinates.
