14 days to go ...

11 December 2011

There's an interesting piece from the editor of the Sunday Express in today's edition.  He explains that he once met a doctor at a dinner he attended and they eventually got around to talking about what books they were currently reading and those that they had read and enjoyed.  The editor it seems is part of an all male book reading circle and at the moment they are reading John Buchan's The 39 Steps, which is where I pinched the title for this blog.  He then goes on to talk about how much he enjoys the fun of going into and browsing around bookshops or charity shops book departments.  Soon he claims, all those pleasures will be lost to future generations because of the advent of the e-reader and ends by saying that he will never be getting one in Christmas stocking.  It all sounded very good and indeed I do have some sympathy for what he says - until that is I looked at the opposite page saw an ad for the Sunday Express download to an iPad ... ... ...

So what else was there in that paper today ... well, there's the story of 4 Somali Muslims who assaulted a white girl in Leicester and based there defence on the fact that they don't normally drink, and that night they did and weren't expecting to behave like that.  If it was the other way round the bleeding heart  liberals and the do-gooders would be queuing up to ensure the thugs would be sent down.  But it wasn't was it?  It was for Somali women and they were let off by the judge who actually accepted their defence.  I wonder if I could get away with that for a drink drive offence?

Kile is now off to church with Jan and I'm left here all by mesen and wondering what mischief I can get up to.  Not much I suppose, I too knackered really ;-)))
