Oh dear, how sad, what a pity, never mind ...

8 May

So now we know and we have another five years of the rich getting richer while not only the poor will get poorer, but those vulnerable folk will be hammered even more than they have been the last five years. I really do despair at times like these and wonder when the UK electorate will wake up to unjust policies of the Tory party. Yet again we see them not caring about those who need help and vote to line their own pockets and make their life even more comfortable.

The issue of electoral reform has been raised again, this time Nigel Farage. I sat watching the results come last night and I was surprised as to the share of the vote they actually gained. Yet they have only one MP. Tories won 327 seats when I last looked, but their vote share will be less than 50%. Surely that can’t be fair in any democracy. The old two party race is over and done with and we need a new system to reflect the wishes of voters. There are dangers of course in changing things. A party that gains 5% of the vote may well be entitled to 5% of seats. But what if that party was the BNP, or Monster Loonies, or perhaps the Gorean Priest Lings (Read a John Norman book to find out what the last one is).

In theory we now have five years to try to sort out some other type of representation. Even so, I can’t see it happening in this term because of the offered referendum on the EU in 2017 will prevent that … if he keeps his word on it that is! And that last bit is the only reason I can see to anywhere near happy about the result.

Enough of that for now, time to move on. It’s surprising what you find when you go looking for something. Yesterday afternoon we went out to try to find that place Diane told us about. We didn’t find it, well, we found one, which we already knew about but it’s not the one we were looking for. But we did find a rather nice little cafĂ© in a converted barn that was part of a larger antiques store. I say ‘store’ loosely here because most of it is on 40’ containers. We did have a look around there but there was nothing that actually screamed out, ‘Buy me,’ in there. Still, it made for pleasant hour walking about there.

We are due to have Kile this weekend again. He has a real fancy for ‘pink’ fish fingers and we haven’t had chips for some time now so today when Jan goes out to get him she will call in somewhere and get some pinks for him. At least we know what we are having for dinner tonight. Knowing what to do with him tomorrow will be interesting; Jan has bought him two new games for the Wii so that will take up part of it while I try to get some work done on me ‘puter. I’m sure we will find a couple of films too.

The tile removal is cracking on. Yesterday we had a letter from the council to say that a form of insolation will be added instead. This morning we had a phone call from them to book times for three appointments for next week for our new kitchen to be installed. All this work must be costing a ton of dosh; now, I don’t mind them doing it, of course I don’t, we will benefit from it, but I’m sure the money could be spent better elsewhere on other projects that need urgent help. Our kitchens do need doing I know, but that dosh could be spent better supporting schools, health clinics, youth organisations … opps, I’m getting off on a tangent again.

Today's photo speaks foir itself ...

And today’s funny insight …

A hotel minibar allows you to
see into the future and find out what a can of Pepsi will cost in 2020.
