Magic, memory and the ups and downs of life

11 September

We can rarely do anything in a straight forward way. After the damage done out back a few weeks ago, we bought a set of four CCTV cameras and a DVR to record to. Jan spent ages installing two of the cameras but end up asking a friend, John Trowe to help with the last two. Once they up it was case of running the cabling and setting up DVR and installing the software. That became round two of the fight.

Jan (I always leave these thing to Jan, she has a lot more patience than me,) spent most of one evening to do the set-up. Eventually, even she had to give up. The software wouldn’t install on the computer; the remote control wouldn’t work; the cameras wouldn’t work even though there was power connected to them; typing the given URL didn’t work on either computer (although I did find the company with a google search).

But pride of place has to be given to the instructions, for example … ‘Do not use the camera in the place where is full of gas leakage and dust.’ How about this one about the remote control … ‘Logon/Lock: Remote control can control the device through the device number is landing, Locked shielded remote control equipment’ Yes, I know; it’s all double Dutch to me too.

Right now we are waiting for the Rev Mick Vincent to arrive to sort out the details for next Wednesday’s service. As for religion itself, mam had an ‘as needed’ attitude. She was actually more interested in superstition than in religion and her life was pretty much ruled by it. Her favourite hymn though was ‘Bread of Heaven’; but even so she only sang that when she had a few drinks on New Year’s Eve. As for music over all, she used to say, ‘Turn that bloody racket down!’ no matter what the music was. Should make for an interesting service that.

So let’s look for a photo then …

A bit if a magical street.

Today’s funny …

“Sugar why don’t you sit down by the table and we’ll start supper.” Said Dorothy to her Husband of 50 years. “Sure thing,” said her husband settling himself down. “Now darling, would you like the soup first or the salad?” Questioned Dorothy. “Umm I guess I’ll take the soup.” He responded. After a whole meal of one endearing term after another, their guest Bob couldn’t contain his curiosity any longer. Bob snuck into the kitchen and asked, “Dorothy do you always talk to your husband like that?” “Bob, I’ll be honest with you,” Dorothy replied. “It’s been five years now, I just can’t remember his name, and I am just too embarrassed to ask him!”
