Road sweepers, saving dosh and 88, 88,

26 May 2012

A bright sunny cloudless day greets us today in Dorktown.  Jan is back home safely from visiting her sister in Ringwood.  I'm always on edge until she gets back when she is on a long drive out.  Down to see Trish is now the furthest Jan drives to though.  She had a good couple of days away anyway.

This morning we sat having our first cuppa of the day when I heard a road sweeper coming up the street.  Just as everywhere else we have a council trying to save dosh wherever they can.  So how come a road sweeper is out on Saturday morning?  Not only that, it drives straight up the centre of the street - with cars parked on both sides bumper to bumper.  So all he's actually sweeping is the clean centre of the street.  Is that really saving dosh?

As usual for a Saturday I have an anniversary for you.  Today we go back over a 1,000 years to 673.  It was on this day in that year that the Venerable Bede was born in Jarrow - at least according to my source, The Coventry Telegraph.  But I wonder just how accurate it is.  At some point there was a change of calendar wasn't there but I can't remember when exactly.  The other point is that unless he was born to a wealthy or influential family, births and deaths were not actually recorded in those days.

Jan's scooter came back from being serviced fairly early in the afternoon yesterday.  I still didn't go out though.  Today we will both go out for a ride around.  Having chatted to her about whether it's worth while spending loads of dosh on scooters over three year old, we will today take a look at the some that are for sale in the two scooter sales rooms in town.  I've found some for £320 on the 'net, but there's no indication of how good or bad they are.  The main item for me is the top weight it will carry.  Being around 18 stone, I need a stranger one to had my weight.  We'll see what they have available and the cost involved.

Just look at these two ...

already carrying their lunch - and it's only 10.45 right now ;-)))

Today's funny then ...

There was a brunette standing along side a busy road chanting "88, 88, 88,
88..." until a blonde came up to her and said, "that looks like fun, can I try?" The brunette said sure so the blonde chanted, "88, 88, 88, 88.." "Well," said the brunette, "that is fun. But what is even more fun is if you say it in the middle of the street" So the blonde said "OK" and stood in the middle of the street. "88, 88, 88, 88-" BAM! she was run over by a car, completely flattened. Along the side of the road, the brunette began to chant, "89, 89, 89, 89...
