Bonfire night, a court case and abortion

5 November

It’s that date again where elderly folk fear of having fireworks put through their letter box; where pet owners fear for the sanity of the pets. It’s also a time when a lot of money is raised for various good causes up and down the country. Personally, I would love to see the whole thing scrapped in favour of something that doesn’t use fires and fireworks in any way at all.

Legally, today is the only day of the year where we all are allowed to own and let off explosives. Look at why we do this every year though; it is all about a Catholic plan to kill the King of England. Since 1605, that’s 410 years now the whole country celebrates that failure, an effigy of Guy Fawkes is burned. Now, hang on second; if we were celebrating the death of a Muslim in that way, there would be hell on wouldn’t there? So why the difference now?

There’s an interesting case going through the high court right night. A pregnant woman ignore all warnings and continued to drink heavily during her pregnancy. The child was born disabled and was taken into care. The main point being discussed is whether or not a foetus is a living person. If the court decides it is, then the child should be due for a payment under the criminal justice system. Call me cynical if you wish, but its social services that have brought this case. I’m wonder just how much the case is in the child’s benefit and how much is it down to SS wanting to use such damages to go towards the costs of care. As I say, call me cynical, but SS don’t do a lot unless they are about to gain from it. There is another here though.

Abortion is a contentious issue no matter what your view point is. But if the court decides in favour of the SS case and say that a foetus is a person, what effect will that have of the abortion industry? Do you see what I am saying here? If a foetus is found to be a REAL person then an abortion would be a murder. At what point will there be a cut off from prosecution for murder in past abortion cases. I bet there’s a lot of legal minds paying a lot of attention to the current case in the courts. I would also bet that there is a lot of lobbying going on behind the scenes too!

Here’s two that went full term …

Tom and Kile.

And today’s funny …

Jeff was fast asleep in his at bed at 3:00 am when he heard an urgent knocking at the door. Rubbing the sleep out of his eyes he made his way to the door. “Can you give me a push”, asked the man at the door.” Jeff looked at the man, thinking he looked a bit drunk, slammed the door in his face and went back to bed. “Shame on you”, said his wife Sally, when hearing the story. “You remember on our vacation how our car got stuck in the middle of the night and that man helped us, go out there and push his car.” So Jeff trudges back out of bed, opens the door, and calls out “Ok I’m here to give you a push, where are you?” I’m over here in the back” came the voice “on the swing.”
