Can greed ever be beaten?

8 March

Yesterday we had a good day. We were up at 6am and by 7.15 we were on our way to the London Wetland Centre and Richmond Park. Our scooter came in useful again as we made our way around the place. They have a problem with rumble stripes on their board walks, but other than that, all was fine. I have a round 100 photos of the day but I can’t say how good they are but looking at the original files on here, they only cover a few scenes, so the choice will be limited. I’ll get one ready for inclusion here before I post it.

I’m not aware of anything going on in Central London yesterday, but I was surprised at the lack of police presence anywhere as we drove round. Even on the motorway we didn’t see any. It did cross my mind though that if there is something going on in town and officers are pulled in, it would leave a large area of London without, or at least limited cover where the crims could have a pretty clear run at things. It seems that in some London areas the cops don’t bother too much anyway. They only become involved after a killing where a police presence could well have prevented it happening in the first place.

The truth about Cyril Smith is now out. For years I had always thought that he was good MP with good ideas. However, even before all the reports of his child abuse became know, I was told that Smith was always on the lookout for a free lunch. That little nugget came from a trusted source and it tarnish the image of the man for me. Now that all this has come out the image is totally smashed up. But wasn’t something done about it? Thatcher knew about when she was the Prime Muppet; did she know of the others who were involved in it? It makes me wonder you know. All of this came out because of Saville.

I wonder if it is still on going. Many youngsters leave home every year and head for the big cities to make their mark/fortune. This of course leaves them vulnerable. What can we as a society do to prevent this happening time and time again? Child abuse is not just the sexual side of it; there’s the physical and mental abuse as well. Only last week a mother and her lover were jailed for killing a little girl. I’ve lost could of the number of such cases we have seen over the last few years. It’s time that a life sentences means just that, a life behind bars!

Even so, there are times when threats of long term prison time won’t stop these people from offending. They come under the influence or become afraid, of others and that is all that is needed for them to commit the abuse. Top and bottom of it all is a lack of respect for themselves and society as a whole. Find out why and put that right would be a huge step in the right direction.

Dealing with the greedy lust of some of these people needs to be tackled as well. No matter how much they have, be it cash, power, influence, whatever, the lust for more and more. Chasing their lusts will always cause problems. There is nothing that will prevent them from doing that; and sadly that means we will always have such people among us.

Even so, we still have beauty living amongst us; like these two rink-neck parakeets shot at LWC yesterday ...

This is one of the shots I was hoping for above.

And today’s funny …

While he was visiting, my father asked for the password to our Wi-Fi.
“It’s taped under the modem,”
I told him. After three failed attempts to log on, he asked, “Am I spelling this right? T-A-P-E-D-U-N-D-E-R-T-H-E-M-O-D-E-M?”
