Heads, walls and a lot of puff

2 August 2012

I had me a day off yesterday and spent most of it in the museums and art galleries in Brum - and I had a nice quiet day too.  Jan is off visiting her sister in Ringwood and is due to set off back here later this afternoon and arriving back here around 79 ish ... give and take a bit.

Yesterday's Dorktown News front page has the council complaining that in 2013/4 they will have to make do with £1.4 million less than this year, a cut in percentage terms far greater that the leafier south Warwickshire.  After living in a private house for the last 3 years I had forgotten just how obtuse and long winded the council really is.

We have a very wet wall in one corner of our flat.  On that wall there are also a number of power sockets and phone sockets and so on.  So it seems obvious to me that the wet wall needs to be sorted out very quickly indeed.  Trying to get it done however is exceptionally hard work!  The upper story of this block is covered with titles that have a low percentage of asbestos in them.  That means that the council are not allowed to touch them.  However, it is from behind those titles that the water is running down from a down pipe that is blocked.  It now seems that because the drains that were examined and found to be blocked by tree routes then it shouldn't matter or effect the block of flats unless there is a storm.  I had to reminded them twice about the heavy rains we have had this last few months before they finally got the message.  Now I'm waiting for call back to see what they are going to do about it, BUT, I still haven't got anywhere with sorting out the severe damp problem!  Heads and brick walls come to mind.

The saga over the old Woollies building is still ongoing in today's News.  Now we are told that there is yet another exciting and mystery company in talks to take over the site.  I won't be holding my breath!  Yet another dog owner has been fined for not cleaning up after his dog; a 64 year old man has been charged with 25 offences in regards to child porn- sick old sod!  And the land lady of Dorktown's pubs has landed a job in front of the telly cameras on one of the TV sales shows.  It's all go here in Dorktown.

Amateur Photographer is still running its POTY competition and this month's subject is Street Photography.  I've been looking at my current stock but I may have to go off and get a few new ones before I decided which one to enter.  It might be better if I do a new image rather than use one of my old ones.  Hopefully I can go out this weekend to see what I can get.  But for now, here's one of my older ones ...

two couples each with a child in a push chair, taken in Broadgate, Coventry a couple of years ago.

And today's funny ...

A little boy walks into his parents' room to see his mom on top of his dad bouncing up and down. The mom sees her son and quickly dismounts, worried about what her son has seen. She dresses quickly and goes to find him.
The son sees his mom and asks, "What were you and Dad doing?"
The mother replies "Well you know your dad has a big tummy and sometimes I have to get on top of it to help flatten it."
"You're wasting your time," said the boy.
"Why is that?" asked his mom, puzzled.
"Well when you go shopping the lady next door comes over and gets on her knees and blows it right back up."
