Week End News

10 October 2011

Our trip to Ringwood went off OK.  It didn't take as long as I thought it might so we arrived in plenty of time to have a look around the town before we went off to see Trish.  It's not a bad little town and from the little we saw there was no Tesco, which seems strange.  They usually manage to get at least one if only a Small Tesco Local in every town.  Most of the shops seemed to be local specialist shops which was good to see.  Most towns these days look all the same with exactly the same line up of chains.  I did find a car sales centre where I saw a Maserati, a Ferrari and a Jag sports job too.  All were on the forecourt and behind them was an old continental truck that looked different to our normal stuff rolling around the UK roads.
After seeing Trish we drove off to Salisbury for an hour.

Jan hadn't been there and it was 1969 the last time I was there and couldn't remember much about the place.  We had a ride around and stopped for a meal and then headed back off home.  We were well knackered by the time we got in and slept like logs until 10.30 yesterday morning.

As we arrived home on Saturday a group of Muslim lads walked by all dressed in so they all their white wedding suites - and very smart they were too.  But it did give me a bit of a shock.  You see, I'd been asked to do the wedding photos but I thought they had said it was Sunday, not Saturday.  So I asked the lads and they were fine.  It seems that within the Muslim community the actual wedding takes place at the mosque close to where the bride lives.  That young lady comes from Leicester and the family I'm friendly with all went over there for that part of the wedding.  Yesterday, all the Leicester folk came over here to  Dorktown for the second part of it all.  I got a lot of half decent shots for them and I hope they are happy with them.

It was a good afternoon too with plenty of food which I loved.  Raj was telling me this morning that he wasn't expecting anywhere near as many as did actually turn up.  Luckily there was plenty and everyone got feed.
So then ... I have asked on Facebook if any of my writer friends are going to have a go at next month's NaNoWriMo.  When it was telly one day last week I told Jan that I wouldn't be bothering but I've been thinking about it more and more and having read an article in Writing Magazine about it, I thought that maybe I will.  Oh yes, if you're not a writer the idea of NaNoWriMo is to write a 50,000 word book in the month of November.  The article says to just sit and write and keep writing until it's done.  Don't it or do anything else with until after the end of November.  There's no prizes or anything, just the   satisfaction of knowing you have done it.  Therefore if you do finish it you can call yourself a winner.  It all looks rather exciting and I shall be having a go.   Anyway, as I said, I've asked on Facebook so I think I'd better go on-line and have look at the website and actually register for it.

But what of Dorktown?  Well, it's still here and I'm still stuck here too.  Ah well - one day I might win the lottery and can move away.  Sadly it wasn't me who won one £101m last Friday!  Oh how I dream such dreams ;-)))
