Schools, kids and the future

19 September 2011

I've just realized, my brother would have been 61 today if he hadn't snuffed it nearly three years ago.  Ah well ... ... ...

Dorktown council is looking to employ security guards at the no longer used site of Manor Park School.  Last year the county council merged Manor Park and Alderman Smith (my old school) on to the latter's site to form a new college.  That leaves Manor Park empty.  OK, fine.  This seems to be happening to all schools from primary onwards all over the country these days.  Yet one day last week there was a news item about the lack of midwives to deal with the increasing number of births that is happening within the UK.  So at what point will they suddenly come to realize that all those closed schools shouldn't have been closed and a rush starts to build more new ones.  Or more and more kids will be squeezed into larger and larger classes and then that will cause a problem and an outcry as well.

Market day last Saturday and we went off into town for a look around.  We didn't actually buy much really, just two magazine off the stall that sells off loads of older mags for a £1 a time.  Jan had a Yours and I had Practical Photography.  I haven't looked at either yet, far too busy doing other things.

We still haven't completed our internal move round yet.  Neither of us are actually up to moving loads of furniture in one day so we have to take it easy.  Like yesterday, I stood at the kitchen sink and peeled two potatoes and one large carrot for dinner ... and my back was screaming surrender at that point.  The upshot is that I think it will be several days before we are finally sorted here.  That is when we will have the bottle of Bollinger we found yesterday I think - something Dave bought and didn't get round to drinking.
