10 May 2013

Some years ago there was a crash just outside town where a car with five young men in it went head on into a lorry.  All five men were killed and the lorry driver was severally traumatised.  The family and friends of the five men clubbed together and bought a bench and had installed beside the road where the crash happened.  We drive passed there on fairly often and there are always fresh flowers nearby.  Only yards away from the bench is a small lay-by with an entrance to a large lake where guys go fishing.  But now it seems the area is becoming a favourite dumping site for fly-tipping.  This morning's News carry's the front page headline, "Call To Catch Vile Criminals."  As bad as fly-tipping is this headline is very much OTT!  Why are these particular tippers 'vile'?  Other times when the paper has stories of fly-tipping that word is not used.  Perhaps it's because the tipping is close to a memorial?  Whatever, yet again we see the media stoking up the emotions of those who are still grieving.  I wish they would use a little, well actually, a lot more common sense and stop the access emotion pulling.

Further along that same road is the village of Astley.  There's a very nice old church building there, and a castle, once supposedly the home of Lady Jane Grey.  Anyway ... ages ago the castle caught fire and was left more or less as a total ruin.  Now it has been restored and has won a restoration award.  I don't see why really.  There are still some of the original sand stone blocks in places but there is also a heck of lot of new build on display too.  It just doesn't look right to me.  Still, I'm only one man so who takes any notice of one man?  Not many really.

My first appointment at our new GP is a 3pm today.  Mainly it's to do with ensuring my meds are all OK and still needed.  Jan has already had her first appointment yesterday and she is impressed - I'll soon find out for myself.  It's our weekend for having Kile too.  Our plan is to give him the choice between birding or going to the a zoo.  However, we need to see what the weather forecast for tomorrow is first.  It's no use allowing to choose and then disappointing him.  We had thought of Twycross Zoo, about 7 or 8 miles away but I'm starting to that Chester Zoo might be a better.  All depends on the weather - again!!!

Today's photo is this one ...

a vulture I snapped the last time we went to Chester Zoo.

Now then, a funny is needed ...

The Grim Reaper came for me last night, and I beat him off with a vacuum cleaner. Bloody hell, talk about Dyson with death.
