The Church, movies and the best laid plans ... ... ...

15 February

Oh dear; we sit and make our plans, spin our little webs of self deceit and ignore the big outside plans of nature in her fury, or her little voice in our inner ears. Things started to go wrong yesterday afternoon when Kile decided that he didn't want to come to us this weekend. That's not so surprising really. He's 9 now and has been getting bored while he's here with us. We have been expecting him to want to stay at home for some time now. We will miss having him but we won't make a big thing of it.

Today's plan of me taking a ride into town has been blown away in the high winds and rain Dorktown now has. Yet again the Saturday market has been cancelled because of the high winds. I think that's four or five markets cancelled now and I should think the traders will be feeling the pinch now. But even the high winds are not the end of it. This morning we didn't get up until 11 o'clock. Jan says we both had a bad night. My CPAP machine was leaking badly and at one time she had to wake to me to stop me falling out of bed! Her neck and shoulders were kicking up all night and kept her awake most of the night. The result is that we are pleased Kile isn't with us. As for tomorrow, well, we've decided to stay at home instead of going out birding, cost being the main decider in that.

I'm sure you will have heard about NetFlix, yes? Well, Jan signed up to it last night and our first film from there was The Tall Man. We've gave it a 4* rating afterwards. A good film that one. Later today we will have another one I'm sure. At £5 a month it's good value and worthwhile going for. I wonder what happens to DVDs and Bluerays now?

The one-time all powerful Church of Rome has committed some horrendous acts of brutality over the years. Yet the current leader of the Catholic church in England and Wales has publicly criticised the government over its changes to the benefit system. That's fine but there is still a lot of work to be done within the Catholic Church to bring into line to current accepted standards. But when did they start to go wrong in human rights issues. Who knows? I don't but today in 1564 a child was born who would later get up the nose of the Church by questioning its teaching by saying the earth spun around the sun, not t'ther way round. That baby boy was Galileo Galilei.

Today's photo then is from only a month ago ...

 Sex After Surgery
A surgeon went to check on his patient after an operation.
"You'll be fine," he said.
She asked ...
“How long will it be before I am able to have a normal sex life again doctor?"
The surgeon seemed to pause, and a small tear ran down his cheek from the corner of his eye, which alarmed the girl.
"What's the matter Doctor? I will be all right, won't I?"
He replied ...
“Yes, you'll be fine. It's just that no one has ever asked me that after having their tonsils out."
