Floods, Kile and curry dinner

7 February

Is it really surprising that we Brits have such an interest in talking about the weather? Vast areas of the southern Britain is flooded yet again with more to come over the weekend. Those folk who are flooded out of their homes will have huge bills to pay to get their homes sorted out and back to living in them. Then they will be hit by rises in their insurance bills, if that is, they were insured. And of course we will all be hit by larger insurance premiums because the companies will have to pay out so much. So the whole country will be effected by the floods in some way or other.

We have Kile coming again this week. Last weekend he was asking about when we were going to the party that we turned up for a couple of months early. Well, the party is tomorrow night. June, who's party it is has come to let us know that the two ladies who we had offered a lift to won't be going. One lady doesn't like going out at night and the other lady's sister died during this last week and isn't really up to going out. At least we offered.

I love having Kile here but after a weekend I'm happy for him to go back home. When he is here I can usually have foods I don't normally have. I like curry and stuff with rice, and pizza and so on. Jan doesn't! So when Kile is here we both have stuff we enjoy, and tonight its beef curry and rice. I got the beef out of the freezer on Wednesday to have it last night but I forgot about it until it was too late to get it done. Well, it's cooking away nicely in the oven now.

'In the oven?'I hear you ask. Yes. in the oven! o you remember those brownish coloured glass saucepans that were all the rage years ago? We had a set but the only one left is the middle sized one. They were OK but stuff like veg used to stick to be bottom of them when you had strained them and put them back in the pan to strain something else. But for things like curry they are ideal. Make the curry as normal and when it's all nicely bubbling away, put it into a pre-heated oven, and forget for a couple of hours. You don't have to keep going back to stir it every so often. Really looking forward to it now.

For today's photo then ...

This rather nice Georgian (I think) building, is in Coventry city centre and is surround by a load of modern buildings - but it still dominates that part of the street.

And today's funny ...

Young John pulls up at a set of traffic lights and looks into the car next to him were a beautiful young blonde is sitting at the wheel, he smiles and opens the window.
She smiles back and opens her window. He says ". You farted as well love !"
