12 February
Have you ever
been to Criccieth in North Wales? No? We have a number of times. And
Porthmadock as well. Trips to these rather nice town were amde when we were
camping at Shell Island, just down the coast towards Barmouth. To get on and
off the Island you have to drive along a causeway. The causeway floods twice a
day at high tide. Even so, we still love being up there, even though will can
no longer go camping. How it will be right now with the storms approaching the
area is anyone's guess but I'm glad I'm not up that way right now.
Tomorrow I
shall go out in the car to do a bit of shopping
and on the way I shall call round to Weddington Fields to see how the
flooding is there. Hopefully I shall get a decent photo to send to the Dorktown
News, and of course on here too. I shall check the small stream just off the
end of the street here. Last year it was well up so maybe it will be even
higher now - good photo opp see.
All this rain
is causing a lot of debate about flood risk and where to build houses. It's
been known for a long time that Weddington Fields is a flood plan for the River
Anker. However, Hallam Developments want to build 300+ houses on there. At what
point does common sense overcome greed I wonder?
And of course
there's Dopey Dave on telly yesterday saying that money will be no problem when
it comes to sorting out damage from the current flooding. Now we find out that
the already promised £130 million is not new money but is going to be clawed
back from other departments contingency funds. What has happened to the national
contingency fund? Surely they still have that? The whole idea is so that we
have money for a rainy day. Well, we've had a lot of rainy days now and that money
needs to be used for help get everything sorted out and working properly. Can't
see it happening actually. I can see him coming out with one excuse after
another.
Did you see
the Despatches show on telly the other night? I sat and watched it earlier this
afternoon. IDS was told that his bedroom tax is unworkable and yet true to form
he ignored the warnings and went ahead. Only they made a big cock up didn't
they! Oh yes they did. They missed a vital page in the 1000 pages of the previous
legislation that provide for an exemption in that legislation about Housing Benefit.
What a shower of wallys they are. Now they are running around looking for a way
to plug it the hole that they themselves created. You couldn't make it up could
you? Perhaps with luck, they will throw a mardy and run off home with their
ball and give us some peace and quiet!
Today's photo
then ...
Shell Island looking across the harbour entrance towards the hills.
And another
short funny ...
ITS A BOY" I shouted "A BOY, I DON'T BELIEVE
IT, ITS A BOY" And with tears streaming down my face I swore I'd never
visit another Thai Brothel!!!
