Versions of truth ...

10 July

Jan was at the GP for a fasting blood test this morning so I got up with her and tried to book and appointment so I can get this tripping/falling over thingy sorted. There were a couple of emergency five minute appointments for today; the next routine appointment was for next Thursday. I wasn’t happy and put the phone down. Jan however had her logical head on this morning so she booked me one for next Thursday while she was there. Six days is the longest I’ve ever had to wait for an appointment, bloody stupid.

Anyone know how the budget will hit pensioners? I couldn’t be bothered sitting and listening to it, and not because it was a Tory giving it. These days I can’t be bothered listening to any Politian spouting on about anything.  They really are all the same these days, full of excuses and reasons why they are the ones telling the truth. I suppose they all tell the truth in some way, it’s just their version of the truth.

I remember see an interview with Mad Maggie one day and she was asked how she could live with herself knowing that homeless figures were rising, companies were closing down and unemployment was going up, people were going hungry, hospitals and schools were in crisis, a country that was to all intense and purpose back in the 19th century. Mad Maggie didn’t see Britain like that; she saw it as a country of prosperity and growth, a country of inward investment and opportunity for everyone, basically she saw nothing wrong with the modern 20th century Britain.

In reality both were correct but both were incapable to seeing the other speaker’s view of Britain. One was a clear socialist view, one was a clear conservative view. Things haven’t really changed have they? Both sides of the argument have their own agenda and no-one will move them from it. Thing is, politics is just one area where this happens. Look at any issue and it’s the same, gay rights, animal welfare, religion, law and order, as well as all the other areas where people have different ideas.

On Facebook the other day was a poll as to whether we should bring back the death penalty for paedophiles. Well, should we? I’m not at all sure it would do any good. Someone gets hung for raping a child; but what happens the next time someone does that? Will they then go on to kill the child? Sheep and lambs see. You see, there’s another issue where views differ.

And today’s fail comes from the US Army, who issued advice that to reduce the chance of catching typhoid all ice cubes will be boiled before use.
