Another
worry has disappeared. I have been
worried about Jan driving home at night from Cairnryan on Wednesday night. So she has managed to get her sailing time
changed to a later time and has booked in to the same hotel she stopped in on
the way outward leg. Now she will do the
drive in daylight. We both feel a lot
happier about that!
I've been
wondering about taking a ride into town, just to get me out really seeing as I
don't actually need anything. But the
snow is fairly thick around here and there a few smaller inclines the scooter
might struggle with if there is ice on the pavements. Besides which, it's cold out there and riding
on a scooter is even colder - so maybe not eh?
A British
man is killed at a gas production site in Algeria. I am amazed that so many people are willing
to go and work in these places knowing the risk they may face. Perhaps it's the wage being offered; I don't
know but deserve every penny of it! But
have you given any thought as to who the militants who make such jobs so risky,
are and what it is they want? Basically
they are Muslims of one flavour or another.
What they want depends mainly on the leader of any particular group
really. The leader of those in Algeria
who attacked the gas plant there seems to want more money really. He has a record of taking hostages and
getting a ransom for them.
However, he
and many others would claim a higher reason.
They would claim to be doing Allah's will. What is Allah's will? Well, again that depends on who you listen
to. Over all it's pretty much to take
the world back to the 7th and 8th Century and to apply Islamic Law to the whole
world. Such large amounts of ransom
money are supposed to help bring their aims to fruition quicker. But I wonder ... in the 7th and 8th centuries
there was no electricity; no motor vehicles; no firearms; if they are so sure
that times were better back then, why are they using modern technology to try
to gain their aims? NOPE!!! Not having their 'higher reason'. They are in it simply for power and money!
Here in the
UK, we have a honours system but there are some honours which the basic man in
street can only ever dream about simply because the numbers of holders is very
limited. Getting such an honour is like
'dead man's shoes'; standing in line waiting for one of the current holders to
pop his clogs. One such honour is the
Order of the Garter, founded on this day in 1348 by Edward III. Now don't feel so much better knowing that
;-)))
Photo time
... Yesterday I sorted out the latest set of photos from me A77. Here's one of a goldfinch on our feeders ...
A short
funny today ...
An elderly man goes into a brothel and tells
the madam he would like a young girl for the night. Surprised, she looks at the
ancient man and asks how old he is. 'I'm
90 years old,' he says.
'90!' replies the woman.. 'Don't you realize you've had it?'
'Oh, sorry,' says the old man. 'How much do I owe you?'
