Army, Air Force but no Navy

15 June 2013

Did watch it this morning?  Trooping the Colour was on and as usual I sat and watched it and a good display it was too.  I can't but admire the precision of the drill brought about by the discipline of military life and hours and hours of practice.  Add in the even longer time spent in the preparation of all the kit they are using and it becomes even clearer to me of just how good these soldiers are.  The fly past was OK but over in seconds; the amount of chaos that must have caused on flights into and out of Heathrow would huge.  Same with the closure of so many roads in and around that central area.  Getting about will be a nightmare for some time I think.  But I did notice something ...

There was no appearance by the Royal Navy!  Trooping is of course mainly and Army thing but the RAF gets to have a role, so why no role for the senior service, the RN?  Is it perhaps that their numbers have been cut so drastically that they no longer have any sailors spare for such duties?  They could have taken part in the fly past of course; but there again, all the Harriers have been laid up and there's nothing coming along to replace them - even though two new carriers have been ordered!

We are going to grab the chance of a ride into town before the rain starts again, so this one will short.  Today's photo then ...

one of Jan on the river cruise we took.

And funny time today is more of a silly time ...

According to Private Eye, Cheltenham Spa council voted to change the signs on the toilets from 'men' and 'women' to 'Gentlemen' and 'Ladies' in order to 'attract a better class of person' to their lavatories.
