Jan's home, a care package and a hollow victory

1 April

It's April Fools Day isn't it, well, I got caught this morning all right! I need to get blood test done ready for a diabetic clinic later in the month. So then, seeing as it's a 'fasting' blood test, I set the alarm for 7 o'clock, got up, a quick wash and off I went. Once there I then remembered that for fasting tests you have to make an appointment. Oh heck ... what a waste of time, made worse by not getting all that good a night anyway.-, and yes, I did feel a bit of a fool.

Jan actually got home at around 7.25 last night. She would have been earlier but you know what the NHS is like for everyone working together. She is to receive intermediate care for a few days and it the nurses were told that it could be up to three days before she could get the assessment done. That meant that the ambulance that was booked to bring her home had to be cancelled. Half an hour later it was rebooked.

Our door bell ranged at around 8.30 and when I answered it, there was the assessment nurse to work out how much care she needs. She finally left at around 9.40. Now sometime today we need to phone the GP to arrange a home visit for various reasons, a job I shall do in a wee while. Jan herself is enjoying a nice, quiet lie-in. A carer is supposed to come and get her up, washed, dressed and settled for the day, but not at a set time. And again to put her back to bed anytime after 7.30pm. But to be honest, I could do that anyway. We'll see how we get on with it for a day or two but I can't see it lasting for very long. Anyway, the carer has arrived and I can hear them getting on with things.

Some time ago I reported on a row between the council and the local Riding for the Disabled charity. The council wouldn't renew the lease for the site where charity is based because of problems with the trustees. It went to court over the issue and the charity actually won, but surely that was a bit of a hollow verdict. The judgement says that the council should deal with the current trustees, but it doesn't actually say the council must give them a new lease. How it will all come out I don't know.

So then, a photo ...

A nice sunny day at Draycote Water earlier this year.

And the Sage has spoken ...

Due to a power cut, only one paramedic responded to the call. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl, to hold a torch high over her mummy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked.
Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom.
Connor began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she had just witnessed ....
Kathleen quickly responded, "He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place .... Smack him again!"
