The worry and stress of life ...

18 March

I’m sat here because Jan is Skyping her sister in Thailand, not because I particularly want to be, but because once they start I can’t get much done at all. Please don’t get the wrong idea over that comment but I’m just not feeling all that bothered with any sort of writing at all. In fact, I’m about ready to get shut of me ‘puter altogether. I won’t of course, I’m just not feeling all that good right now.

The reason for that is worry about our two kids; I say kids but Lynda is 39 and Tom is 34, but no matter what happens you always worry about them. Tom is a real pain in the arse and I am really sick of him (even if I am worried about him right now). He’s had so many chances and he’s always wasted them. He walked out on us when he was 16 and we’ve had him back a few times yet and he’s thrown it all back into our faces. Now Lynda has taken him on and he’s in Antrim.

And that is where the worry comes from really. Lynda is not a well woman. She has a number of medical problems, far too many to list here. In reality she is not really up to taking him on. We advised her not to because of it, however she was sure it would work out. She paid for his flight, bought him a new bed and bedding, a wardrobe and a set of draws for his room. We were initially not sure he was going to make the flight because his ticket was on his phone, but that was in the pawn shop and he has a history of not redeeming them when he has pawned stuff before.

He did surprise us by getting his back and so yesterday we dropped him off at Birmingham airport for his flight to Belfast. Lynda posted a message on Facebook to say he had arrived. We hope he will sort himself out over there, but history isn’t on his side.

Enough of that. Last week my Doblo went back and we sat and waited to see if we would get the £250 good condition payment would come through; it did. And a few days alter we had a second cheque arrived for the remainder of the advance payment we made when we got the car. So that is now it’s just a matter of waiting for them to clear. That lot will come in handy right now. Sadly though, Jan has squashed my idea of an overnighter in Blackpool so we can get up to Leighton Moss for birding and the following day to RSPB Marshside and the Wetlands Trust place not far from it.

Some time ago I wrote about how much our armed forces had been cut back. What I didn’t realise is just how far those cuts have gone. By the time the army is down to 80,000 soldiers, we won’t have enough to defend the UK, let alone project any type of force abroad. The Russian armed forces are current playing silly buggers as it is by stationing an aircraft carrier of the east Scottish coast, while their air force is sending airplanes into our air space to test our defences. I only know of one ex-service man within the government right now, Dan Boyles. He was a major in the Fusiliers, so he should know how thin things have got, yet he hasn’t said a word. Not only that, he’s standing down as an MP at the upcoming election.

One wonders why? It seems odd that someone would stand for just one election; normally they continue to stand for a long time. Does he know something we don’t? Are things going to get even worse? Or is it that he’s afraid of the previous MP who has dogged his footsteps every day over the last five year? Mike O’Brien had been the MP for North Warwickshire for a long time, and it was surprised when he lost the seat the last time. We will soon see.

Today’s photo then …

A pintail at LWT.

And today’s funny …

A zookeeper is ordering new
animals. As he fills out the forms, he types “two mongeese.” That doesn’t look right, so he tries “two mongoose,” then “two mongooses.” Giving up, he types, “One mongoose, and while you’re at it, send another one.”
