Many
apologies for bending your ears about yesterday. As I said, Tom is now in
Antrim and how he gets on is up to him, not me or Jan.
We
have been looking around for a place to go off for the day and have settled on
Wales. We’re not quite sure though. While I was sat thinking about this, well,
actually I came to realise that from this side of town head north along the M6
is best done from just down the road and left onto the A5 and join the M6 at
Galley. Heading for Wales is just a matter of continuing along the A5 and then
take the A458 towards Welshpool. From there on to Barmouth and Porthmadog
before we head up to Llanberis Pass. We can make up our minds from there on. We
are both looking forward to it now.
Sometime
ago we tried a diet that one of us read about which seemed to work fine for us.
The idea is that have a breakfast cereal for all meals on one day, and them
normal meals for the next day. Well, we’re back on it and yesterday was the
normal meal day. I had a steak and baked spud. The spud was fine, no problem;
the steak however, was tough as old boots. I couldn’t eat most of it. That was
disappointing really. It was a rump steak too, so maybe it has sat in the
freezer for far too long. At some time the packaging got split and it was open
to the air. Whatever, yesterday’s meal wasn’t a success. As for Jan, she had a
dentist appointment yesterday and her mouth was still numb when she got home so
she made do with some honey of bloomer bread.
Years
ago I mostly read sci-fi books, with the occasional war novel thrown in. One of
the many writers I read was Ray Bradbury but I always found him hard work. I
stopped reading him after just two books, The
Illustrated Man and the Martian Chronicles.
Last week I saw a copy of Fahrenheit 451and I thought, ‘Well, how many times have you not liked a
writer but enjoyed them when you return to them?’ So I bought the damned
thing; and just to show how daft I can get, I also bought Something Wicked This Way Comes. Oh dear … another £15 bits the dust. I couldn’t
make head nor tail of the firemen burning books. I’m sure Warwickshire Air
Ambulance can find a use for them, even if it is as kindling.
I
have also given up on Life as we Knew it.
It’s written from the eyes of 16 year girl and even though I got past page 110,
I was struggling with the whole idea of seeing things from her perspective. That
is another one that will be on the second hand market soon enough. Now I know I’m
safe with Dan Browns new paperback, Inferno.
I’ve read all his others and enjoyed
them, even if I don’t agree with the way he interprets art history; but I’ll
forgive him that! Not sure what will follow that though, but at 600+ pages, I
don’t have to worry about it just yet a while.
I
caused a bit of stir and frivolity in a pub the day on our way home from Brum
Airport. Instead of using the A45 all the way to Coventry, I cut off and went
down a few back lanes and so on and we ended up in The Griffin, mid-way between
Shustoke and Furness end. It’s a nice old fashioned pub that we hadn’t been in
for some time. So off I went to bar and ordered our drinks. At that point I
remembered I didn’t have any money, so I called Jan over to pay. A few of the
others in the pub thought it was funny at least. Ah well … … …
And
so for a photo …
The clock at LWC.
And
today’s funny is from the Sage …
