10 July
Yesterday we went off to our neighbour’s caravan for
the day and we had a great day out. The traffic wasn’t at all bad on the way to
Skeggy but the A46 on t’ther side not far from Leicester was closed by the
police. However, we didn’t see any need for it to be closed at that time. It
was clear by the time we came home anyway. We had hoped to get on to the prom
and have a ride down there but the wind so strong it was blowing sand it was
like sharpe pins hitting me in the face. So we went for a pint or two instead.
Yesterday wasn’t a birding day as such but we still
managed to get 25 species, including kestrel, sparrow hawk, hobby and peregrine.
It helps break up the boredom of the journey on the way I suppose? As for
photos, there’s nothing there worthwhile at the moment. We are hoping to get to
Brum tomorrow so I should something from over there.
Dorktown’s Wilkinson store managed to catch fire
somehow on Tuesday at around lunchtime. It had to be evacuated and now I
suppose there will be an investigation as to how it started. According to the
News this morning the company doesn’t have any idea as to when it will open
again, if it ever does that is. We do shop in there but to be honest, there’s
nothing in there that we can’t get from other shops. I suppose that is the same
with most shops isn’t it. There’s very few which are so unique, that they are
the only one supplying that particular product or range.
The News has four pages of photos of kids who have held
their so-called prom night. There are some very nice dresses on display I
suppose, but why on earth can’t they do something different instead of imitating
the damned Yanks? Who started it here I wonder? Was there a genuine call for
the kids or was it the suppliers who saw another money making event? Another
question occurs; how many families have gone into debt so that their child will
not be the only one who didn’t attend because of they couldn’t really afford
it?
Today’s photo …
A mute swan at Ham Wall.
And today’s funny …
While
working at an auto mechanic shop, we had a co-worker that was on
waiting list for a heart transplant. One day the phone rang and the girl up
front answered. It was the hospital with good news. “Sam,” she yelled. “Your
parts are in!”
