Job satisfaction and give aways

13 August

A profound statement on FaceBook this morning; a writer/drawer of comic books was sat thing about all his old friends and how well they were doing. A banker, a lawyer, a doctor and so on. All well paid top line jobs. And here he was writing and drawing comics. But then he remembered that no matter how good a job you are in, or how good you are at your job, at some time you will need entertainment, and that is what he did. And he’s right you know; we all need to be entertained at some point. Some people write, some paint/draw, some take and show photos, some act or direct or do both together. I thought the guy’s thought was profound anyway.

On telly last night was the Supervet, a vet who invents operations for small animals. We sat and watched it this morning. Nial Fitzpatrick is the man himself and right from the very first show you could see the love of animals that he has. It’s that love that pushes him on to keep working to treat the animals sent to him. Last night’s show had a Great Dane that needed a disc replacement, something that hadn’t been done on so large an animal before. It didn’t faze him at all, he got on and did the job. Yes it was pioneering work and he was nervous, but he did it and now the dog is pain free. The job satisfaction at the practice must be very high for all the staff.

If you are reading this then you are reading it on some sort of computer, whether it’s a desk top like mine, a lappy, tablet, smartphone and so on, it doesn’t really matter does it. Well, our first computer was a Packard Bell desk top from Currys. A couple of years later we up graded and bout a new Packard Bell. But that first one we gave away to a friend of ours in Bradford. A year later she had to upgrade herself because the one we gave her had a CD drive and she needed a DVD drive.

A few years later we bought our first lappy and I used it mostly but I really didn’t get on with it very well. Jan thought it would happen and she was right. In the end we parcelled it up and sent it to our daughter in Antrim. Lynda was very happy with it, as was Sean, our grandson. It wasn’t long before Lynda needed to upgrade too. So that was two give aways and two upgrades needed. So I have wondered if we actually these people any favours. Lynda has gone on and I think she now has two lappys, but I wonder if she would have done that if we hadn’t given her the first one. Whatever, what’s done is done and can’t be undone.

I’m at diabetic clinic this afternoon at 3.15. When I called this morning I thought there wouldn’t be a free slot until next week some time so I was surprised to get one quickly. I’m not complaining though, the sooner it’s done the better. Must remember to do a wee wee sample too before I go.

Today’s photo …

A painting interpretation of the 20th Century on the walls of Tate Modern. This image was taken from some distance away because it is so large, I had to stand well back to get it all into the shot.

Today funny …
A man wrote a letter to one of the Chicago hotels he planned to stay at while on vacation: "I would like to bring my dog with me. He is well behaved and well-groomed. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room?"
The hotel owner replied, saying, "I've been operating hotels for thirty years. I've never had a dog steal bedclothes, towels, silverware or pictures off the walls. I've never had to kick a dog out in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog skip out on a hotel bill. So, yes, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay, too."
