Watch the hoss

17 June

After reading yesterday’s blog, Joy Clark, a long standing friend of Jan and me, commented that £5.70 for two drinks was expensive. And indeed Joy is right. Last week when we were in Whetherspoons we only paid £3 for two pints of diet Coke, much more acceptable, but why the difference I thought. But is it expensive? Actually, last time I was in London I paid £3.55 for a small diet Coke, but there again, that was in London and you can expect to pay more there for everything.

So what about the Anker then; it seems to be yet another example of the greed of Enterprise Inns, the owner of the pub. In the three years we have been here we have seen three new landlords. The previous two both left when Enterprise increased their rents and the price they had to pay for their stock. It well past the time when this issue was challenged and sorted out. There can be no excuse for such price difference within the same town.

We had a visitor from the company doing all the work on the flats earlier this morning. It was just a courtesy call to ask how things were and if we had any issues in regards to it all. Well, we haven’t, not after the searing worker issue was dealt with that is. As for the work itself, not at all, and even if we did there is little that can be done about it anyway. The job has to be completed now that it’s about half way through.

One thing I will say though, we’ve been impressed with well they seem to be doing. Once they start they don’t stop until that job is done. At this rate they will be completely finished pretty quickly I think. I hope so because it will be a real nightmare have our kitchen done at the same time if they are still working outside.

Long term readers who have returned every day to read my blog (for which I’m very gratefully for), will know that I do not like football. In fact, I actually loath the silly practice. I just can’t get me ‘ed rand 22 grown men kicking a bag of wind around a field, or why they actually get paid for doing so either. And if it’s a game, then why are they getting paid? No way, its work, not play!

Anyway, as it stands there’s a lot of dosh floating around this silliness and the whole thing is ripe for bribery and fraud in massive amounts. This doesn’t surprise me at all. The latest claims and investigations are only the latest in a long list of such incidents. No matter who is behind it, the man at the very top has to shoulder his responsibility for what went on while he was in charge. That man Blatter needs investigating and dealing with. The whole thing will never go away until he is dealt with. At the very least he has protected those at fault, and that surely makes him an accomplice to what happened.
