Drug dangers, costs and more problems to come

12 June

We are having a lazy day ready for a trip to Minsmere tomorrow. Jan has seen photos of bittern chicks there on Facebook and wants to try to get her own shots. It’s been some time since we went there anyway so it’s time we went back. We’ll call into Southwold when we’ve finished there, should be some nice shots there too. We’re both looking forward to it. I’m thinking … hmmm … why not? Maybe we might get an overnighter and call into Cley and Titchmarsh on the way back.

Drugs are the biggest threat in the world today. Daily people are dying from the effects of using them, while others are being maimed or injured by dealers who are trying to protect their very lucrative product line. We don’t need to be user to be caught up in the whole drug racket. Most crime here in the UK is down to drug use and the need to feed the habit that users have.

Jan and I know all about because we have been broken into and had items stolen to feed a drug habit. Not only that, the man in the flat above is a dealer and he had a continuous stream of customers to his front door. There was always smell of the stuff in the communal hall, so strong I have often felt fairly sick and giddy over it. At least that dealer is out of our hair. All we are waiting for now is for council to get the eviction papers sorted and the place can be cleaned up and re-let.

So when I read in read in today’s Dorktown New that two cannabis factories have been found in separate houses here in Dorktown, I can’t help but be pleased about it. It seems though that police are finding these factories on a regular basis all over the country. There is an obvious need for the stuff. What concerns me is just how many users there are, or must be. How many of those users are out on the road driving about, or even worse, on motorbikes.

The cost of addiction is costing society as a whole a huge fortune. But just how innocent are we, even us non-drug users? Smokers and addicts, so are alcoholics. The NHS is body picking up the biggest tab when it comes to addiction. So what’s the difference between a heroin addict and an alcoholic? Some would say that there is no difference, and I agree with that overall; but at least an alcoholic has a much better chance of kicking the booze with right help than a heroin user has.

As I’ve said, I believe that drugs are the biggest danger facing the world today. Is there any way of cleaning the mess up and, yes, a cliché, ‘saving the world’? I wish there was. Sadly however, the situation has got to the point where it’s far too late now. I see no way of stopping it now or in the future. Far too much money is involved in it, money that the major suppliers will fight and kill to keep the money flowing in. I wonder if the situation will get to the stage where there is no money left in the world to continue to buy more drugs; or maybe perhaps (miracles do happen), the producers will run out of storage space to for the money they now have?

And so for today’s photo …

A selfie I suppose.

Today’s funny …

A reporter was reporting for a newspaper on a soccer team. One of the players looked old so he went over to him and said, “you know you might be the oldest man playing on a soccer team! How do you do it at this age?” The man replied “I drink 5 beers a day, smoke 2 packs of reds a day, and eat tons of chips.” “Wow, that is  incredible! How old did you say you are?” He looked at me and replied, “22 years old.”
