Footie, violence and a load of old balls

22 November 2013

After three serious assaults at local footie games, it seems that all the match officials are withdrawing for future games. The fear within footie circles is that it could well be the end of the Sunday League here in Dorktown. Well, you know me and footie and what I think of it, but there are a lot of people who do enjoy it. It would be a great shame if the enjoyment for so many people is spoiled or even stopped by the actions of just three immature men. Today's News quotes the Sunday League as saying the with over 300 games this season so far, only three have been abandoned. Those three because of violence.

What has happened at those three games seems to me to be the fallout from the way that the prima donnas of the professional leagues, now seem to think that it is right and acceptable to argue with match officials when they show red or yellow cards to send someone off the pitch. Some of these rows have been very close to being violent when I've seen them of the news on telly. If these spoiled over-paid brats can get away with it, then it's only a matter time before the same thing is seem in the amateur game too. Here on Dorktown we've seen it arrive. My question is, 'why hasn't this been dealt with at pro level before now?' It can't just be about money; can it?

The News, along with all newspapers carries ads to make added dosh. well, there's another in for a solicitors that is using some very silly (to my mind that is), facts and figures as a way of leading readers in. The company will remain hidden for now but today's little gem has a photo of the Grand Canyon in the States and the words, 'did you know that the Grand Canyon can hold around 900 trillion footballs?' Hmmm ... perhaps maybe they could put the players in there too and put us out of misery ;-)))

Yet another pub in Dorktown is on the road to closing down. It is in what used to be the Dorktown Conservative Club. That closed years and years ago. The current pub is the third one on that part of the building. The first was called Four Doors Down. Is was OK but nothing special. It became the Barracuda and even though it was pretty much the same as before it seemed to do a lot better. Around two years ago it was taken over by a company called Bramwell Pub Company, who changed the name to The Abbey. Bramwell Pub has gone into administration and the Abbey is up for sale, again. The pub is right opposite The Willy White so if there's a choice that's where I go for a drink. I just can't see the other one getting anywhere while the Willy White is open.

I still haven't sorted out the photos from last Sunday yet so I'm afraid it's an old one again ...

Actually, not all that old, it's from this year anyway, a couple of white roses I found in Riversley Park. There's another one that Sage passed on to me some time ago ...

opps ... maybe she should have taken a bit more care ;-)))

Grandkids are great aren't they? The Sage has sent 15 funnies about them; Here's the first ...

My Grandparents are funny, when they bend over, you hear gas leaks and they blame their dog.
