Schools, NHS again and The Black Dog strikes

4 September 2013

The Black Dog struck again yesterday made worse by the feeling of having a head cold coming on.  No Black Dog today, that disappeared after a quick trip into town to get some fruit and odds and ends, but the head cold has hit badly.  My head feels full of cotton wool, my throat feels like sandpaper is rubbing it.  Jan is at the GP today to get one her repeat scripts sorted so while she out she'll be calling in somewhere to get me some Nightnurse or Lemsip.  Tomorrow was going to be a birding day but I don't think I shall be up to going; in fact I know I won't thinking of how these damned head colds work with me.

Years ago governments of every colour went about closing schools.  I remember a primary/middle school and a comprehensive school closing.  Now it seems that there is a shortage of places in Primary schools.  That of course will lead through to middle and comprehensive schools as this current years in-take goes through the school system.  Anyone with and sense could see that the closures were far too heavily implemented.  There was always the danger that a shortage would happen at some time in the future.  Now of course, they will all blame each other when all of them were to blame in some way.  And what will this do to the current government's spending plans - or lack thereof?  We can only wait and see.

The NHS is in a mess.  We all know that and we all have our own ideas as to why.  For some time now we Dorktowners have waiting for the inevitable and front page of the News says that what we feared was going to happen.  The Hussy Hospital is to be privatised by the back door.  Oh yes, its claimed that the field is open to all institutions to bid to take it on and become partners in running the place.  That in theory means that other local NHS Trusts can bid too.  But if any of them were really interested they would have stepped forward by now anyway.  The odd one or two who were had their bids rejected or ignored.  So that leaves just one real option doesn't it' PRIVISATION!!!!  And once it happens here at the Hussy then it will happen elsewhere.  Labour will blame the Tories of course; but hang on a minute ...

The old Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry was in dire need of being replaced.  It was replaced - under Labour's PFI scheme which see the hospital paying millions of pounds in rent to some financial company somewhere or other that will probably mean paying twice as much for the place as it should have done.  The fact that the hospital is slowly sinking into a flood plain area, which was known about before the building began, will make no difference at all.

And so for photo ...

a Lapwing at Titchwell last Saturday.

And a funny ...

The town mayor was asked to officially open a new home for the elderly.
After cutting the tape he was given a vip tour of the building.
Entering one room he came across an old dear sitting in a chair, he said Hello, do you know who I am?
The old dear replied, No I don't but if you ask Matron I'm sure she will tell you!
